The Rainforest Alliance teams up with Ministry of Education to plant fruit trees at St Luke's School for the Deaf in Embu

In a heartwarming collaboration aimed at both environmental conservation and community support, The Rainforest Alliance,  a non governmental organization, has joined forces with the Ministry of Education to plant fruit trees at St. Luke's School for the Deaf in Embu.

Amidst the lush greenery of Embu, students and staff at St. Luke's School for the Deaf gathered eagerly to participate in the tree-planting event, which symbolized a significant step towards fostering environmental awareness and sustainability within the community.

While addressing press, James Muyula who led the team from the organization during the exercise which also characterized the celebrations of the International Forests Day, said climate conservation calls for shared commitment to nurturing the environment calling on other stakeholders to join hands in planting trees.

"This initiative goes beyond just planting trees. It's about instilling a sense of responsibility towards our planet and ensuring that everyone, regardless of their abilities, can actively participate in conservation efforts," remarked Muyula saying the exercise was within their program dubbed Mt Kenya Sustainable Landscape and Livelihood program that the organization is running in Embu and Kirinyaga counties.

He said the fruit trees planted not only contribute to the ecological balance of the area but also provide a sustainable source of nutrition for the students.

Ms Keziah Kagendo who is the headteacher for the school lauded the initiative saying the fruit trees planted will not only change the environment but also be source of food to the students.

"We are thrilled to be part of this initiative, which not only enhances our school environment but also teaches our students valuable lessons about environmental stewardship," said Kagendo.

Ms Elizabeth Kariti who is the Assistant County Commissioner Kiritiri division and the founder Kariti Foundation said as the trees frourish they will serve as living testimony to the power of collaboration and community engagement in creating a more sustainable and inclusive future for all.
