Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu is one of the beneficiaries of ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presidential campaign secretariat which entirely comprises of top-level professionals and senior appointments drown from multiple sectors of the economy.
Not to be left behind, lawyer Makau Mutua won a spot in the secretariat believed to be among the top gainers of Raila’s presidency if he is elected the fifth commander-in-chief of the republic of Kenya.
Prof Makau Mutua is a legal scholar and a human rights activist. Nation describes him as Raila’s personal friend and his political soulmate.
What remains to be seen is the strategies employed by DP William Ruto and OKA given they are among the top three contestants challenging RAO.
The 12 “disciples” will be headed by Laikipia governor Ndiritu Muriithi. Others in the team are Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, Prof Karuti Kanyinga, Royal Media Services owner Samuel Macharia, Seth Kakusye among others.
Kakusye is a member of ODM Disciplinary Committee and a Kibwezi politician who was prevailed upon by Mr Odinga to step down in support of James Mbaluka, a Wiper candidate in 2017 polls.
Key among the team cobbled together is if it will come up with a manifesto sellable to Kenyans to make RAO win presidency bearing in mind that NASA died. He lost support of major contributors to his previous election runs like Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetang’ula and Isaac Ruto.
