This was to allow the court hear a case filed by former Ambassador Julius Kiema Kilonzo. On April 26 2022, the former Kenya’s ambassador to Uganda filed an application in court under certificate of urgency.

“…interim orders are hereby issued restraining the Respondent, Wiper Democratic Movement from forwarding to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission the name of the Respondent, Dr Julius Makau Malombe as its Candidate or nominee for the position of Governor, Kitui County in the forthcoming general elections.”

Kiema was aggrieved by the Kalonzo Musyoka-led party giving Dr Malombe a direct nomination.

The court went on to direct respondents to file their responses. The matter will be heard by written submissions.

Wiper lost the 2017 general elections to Governor Charity Ngilu.
