Speaking during a public forum at ATC Kwa Kathoka on Friday afternoon, Kibwana said he will contest for the seat on Muungano Party ticket.

"I am vying for senator to oversight the incoming County government of Makueni,” he told the gathering.

Kibwana who had announced his ambition for presidency has since shelved his ambitions. He supports Raila Odinga's fifth bid for State House.

The second term county boss will square it out for the position with vocal Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo who is set to replace Mutula Kilonzo Junior at the Senate on a Wiper ticket. Junior is the party's frontrunner candidate for Makueni gubernatorial position.

Kibwana's announcement comes at a time he is at loggerheads with his deputy Adelina Mwau after the latter decamped to Deputy President William Ruto's UDA party. She has set her eyes on Women Representative seat.
