Ondego assures Kitui residents of their security during census

The Kitui County Security Team has assured residents that security will be beefed up before and during the weekend census exercise.

Speaking after meeting the county security committee, Kitui County Commissioner John Ondego said they had mobilized and deployed dozens of security officers to avert any possible plans to disrupt the enumeration exercise set to kick off on August 24.

“Security will be reinforced in every corner of Kitui to secure the enumerators, the locals and property,” said Mr Ondego who was accompanied by the county police boss Lydia Ligami and Statistics officer Reuben Mwinzi.   

Affirming that it was all systems go for the census in the county, Mr Ondego also ordered all bars in Kitui to remain closed during the census night.


"Let me take this chance to reiterate what was said by the cabinet secretary in the ministry of interior Dr Fred Matiang'i. All bars in Kitui should remain closed during the time of census," he ordered.

He further appealed to wananchi to participate in the census exercise in entirety so as to guarantee capture of accurate population data for the county.
