Top in the findings were unearthing of 935 ghost workers.  The committee was chaired by Dr Florence Muinde.
"Out of the 935 ghost workers, 326 are permanent and pensionable, 23 contractual,56 ECDE teachers and 530 casuals", said Dr Muinde.

The Chairperson of the audit committee added that the number of casuals cannot be ascertained. "There are many gaps. Most of them are not even in the list and have been recruited without a clear road man" , she explained.

Dr Muinde concluded that the 935 employees were being treated as ghost workers since they cannot be accounted for.

Kitui County Assembly Speaker Kevin Kinengo was present during the presentation of the report. Others in the meeting were a number of MCAs, civil society, the youth and business people.

Kitui County Human Resource Audit and Rationalization Committee Chairperson Dr Florence Muinde says the county will stop paying the 935 ghost workers it suspects to be on its payroll.
The chair added that this will enable the Dr Julius Malombe -led government to save a lot of taxpayer's funds from wastage.

She said that the employment of casuals should be regulated especially in "very sensitive areas". Some of areas cited were revenue collection, finance, security and hospital departments.
