Each Embu MCA gets over Sh300,000 for Tanzania trip

The Embu County legislators will jet back to Kenya after a week and three days in Arusha, Tanzania in what was billed as a training on personal financial management. The foreign trip was fully sponsored by the County Government of Embu.

Not to be left behind, all the 33 MCAs went to partake of huge sums of allowances ranging from transport, accommodation and per diems.

The MCAs left Kenya on September 21 and will be coming back tomorrow.

They are earning Sh36,669.40 per day since as per SRC regulation, they are entitled to 332 US dollars daily.  When converted to Tanzanian currency, it will be TSh766,256 per day and when converted back to Kenyan shilling it is KSh36,669.40 paid per day as allowances.

So, in total, each MCA will return from the president Samia Suluhu Hassan-led country Sh336,694 richer. In total, the county will spend Sh11,110,902 to fund MCAs trip abroad.

Mwingi Times contacted a senior manager at Embu County Assembly for a comment on the huge allowances MCAs are spending as wananchi suffer from job losses in a battered economy that is yet to recover from Covid-19 pandemic shocks.

“Since the passing of the County Budget in August, no development projects have started. The first business MCAs have embarked on is the Arusha trip”, said the manager aware of the trip business.

Last weekend, all Embu MCAs including their Speaker Josiah Thiriku snubbed a presidential campaign meeting by the National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi as well as acting Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu and all Embu County MPs held in Embu town.
