Why Kavindu’s win matters to Kalonzo

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has emphasized the importance with which he regards the upcoming Machakos Senatorial seat elections saying that South Eastern region should speak with one voice and elect Ms Agnes Kavindu Muthama.

Muvisi recounted the gruelling by-elections in Kabuchai and Matungu where both Moses Wetang’ula’s Ford Kenya and ANC headed by Wycliffe Mudavadi emerged winners.

He likened losing Machakos senatorial seat to be like losing political clout in Ukambani. “Both Weta and Mudavadi increased their Bonga Points so if we lose Machakos, I will lose my Bonga Points”, said Kalonzo in this abridged version of live streaming of interviews beamed on Facebook, YouTube  and three Ukambani radio stations. They are Athiani, Mbaitu and ATG radio.

Kalonzo was taken to task to disabuse the notion that Agnes Kavindu Muthama was a “System Candidate” who was being imposed by the State Machinery to voters. He defended Kavindu saying she is God-fearing and has served the country in the BBI taskforce.

Kathiani MP Robert Mbui and Matungulu’s Mutinda Mule were also interviewed together with Wiper leader.

If Kavindu is elected in Senate as the next occupant of the seat, her win will be historic.

The seat fell vacant following the demise of Boniface Kabaka Mutinda. Kabaka died in a Nairobi hospital, seven days after he was taken to Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua eulogized Mr Mutinda as an astute lawyer and parliamentarian.
