Nation gets Mwingi burial announcement wrong

BY MUSYOKA NGUI

The Nation erred in today’s burial announcement of Mrs Rose Kairu Nzoka who is mother to a prominent Nairobi businessman Mutati Nzoka alias Sonko. The announcement appeared on page 32 of the paper.

The family of the deceased and their friends and well-wishers are having a fundraiser today to give their mum a befitting send off. The fundraiser venue is Sagret Hotel in Milimani, Nairobi City County.

When Mwingi Times fact checked the transition announcement that said the burial will be on Saturday August 19 2020, it found that the said date was on a Wednesday not Saturday as quoted.

However, further verification of burial arrangements revealed that indeed, the paper could have made a typing error given September 19 2020 will be on a Saturday. This is when the mum will be laid to rest.

Kairu will be buried at her rural home in Maseki Village, Kimangao location, Kyuso district in Mwingi North Sub County.

Residents who know the family well expressed displeasure with the error saying it was embarrassing.

Mr Cephas Mutai, a resident who identified the error said that the “burial” was last month yet we are already in second half of September.

Another mourner pointed at a possible lawsuit for what he called a misleading information.

This writer said, “The family is grieving and an apology and a free placement of another burial announcement will do”.
