Mwingi
Central MP Joe Mutambu has accused his counterpart from Bura North constituency
of being behind the killings happening at the border between Kitui and Tana
River counties, after the Bura North MP Ali Wario threatened him with a gun
yesterday and barred IEBC officers from Mwingi to register residents at
Mwanzele market which is situated in Mwingi East Sub County.
Joe
Mutambu had taken voter registration drive to Mwanzele market which is
inhabited by both Somali and Kamba people, before his fellow legislator from
Bura arrived and interrupted the exercise while accusing Joe of being a thief.
Mwingi Central
MP and the IEBC officials were forced to flee the area, after the crowds became
hostile to them and started throwing stones at them.
Mutambu
has since reported the matter at Ukasi police station where he recorded a
statement claiming that his life is in danger. He has called upon the Kenya
police boss Joseph Boinett to lodge immediate investigations immediately
against the MP for threatening him with a gun and ensure that the legislator
face the full force of the law.
Mutambu
has given the Somali herders who are grazing their camel in the farms belonging
to the Kamba people an ultimatum of 14 days to leave.
However,
Bura North MP Ali Wario said that he won’t be scared by Mutambu, calling him a
thief who has come to steal his votes and said that his people won’t vacate the
area.
