Lawyers are the best bet for Senate, says renowned advocate Mati

Maendeleo Chap Chap Party Secretary General, Nyamu Mati, has declared that the best persons to be elected to the Senate are lawyers due to their work-proven debating and negotiating prowess.

Mati who is himself a lawyer has said he was gunning for the Kitui Senatorial seat in 2022 to ensure the people got quality representation if elected. He last week took over as the Chap Chap SG after the former occupant Stephen Kilonzo defected to UDA party.

In the recent past, Nyamu sprung to the limelight when he represented Embu Governor Martin Wambora and his Machakos counterpart Alfred Mutua in high profile cases and he is credited with saving them from possible impeachment.

“I am going to all parts of Kitui County seeking votes to become the senator in order to ensure the people are optimally served. The best performers in senate are Orengo, Murkomen, Mutula Kilonzo and Amos Wako who are all lawyers. That is my ilk,” said the Mati.

He said he had the advantage of having 24 years’ experience as an advocate and a record of winning many cases.

“This is an opportunity for Kitui to take advantage of and elected a lawyer as senator so as to be served like other areas in Kenya that have lawyers as their senators to be served better,” said the high court advocate.

Dethrone Senator Wambua

Mati was speaking at Ngalange village in Tseikuru division of Mwingi North sub-county in Kitui on Saturday during the burial of a local matriarch Karigu Mwonga who died aged 72 years.

He is seeking to dethrone the current Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua who is an accomplished professional journalist.

Others salivating at the senate seat are Nairobi entrepreneur Allan Sila, educationist Muinde Mutukaa, as well as Kilonzo who was replaced by Mati as the Maendeleo Chap Chap Secretary General.

In a veiled jab at Senator Wambua, Mati when serving as senator for Kitui after the 2022 polls, those who belong to the journalism trade should go back to the newsroom and continue churning out reports on how lawyers have done a good job at the senate.

He said that he sympathized with Kitui people because in the last election Kitui voters elected a person they had not previously seen or known as their senator. He said this time round they had the chance to vote in a person they know pretty well.

“You only saw someone’s photograph on the ballot paper and voted for him for the sake of it. As for me, I will visit all areas of Kitui for locals get familiar with me ahead of electing me their senator,” said Mati.
