“Mundu” to honor Wiper summons but insists there will be no by-election

Having rode to Parliament in an unlikely situation in 2013 after many a false starts against his then archrival and de facto Kamba nation political kingpin Kalonzo Musyoka, Mwingi North MP John Munuve who is fondly referred to as Mundu by his ardent supporters has downplayed the recent Wiper rebels summons as a mere “malicious rumor” that cannot result in his expulsion from the party or at worse losing his seat which he is only barely in first term.

Speaking at Ideal Palace Hotel in Mwingi, Munuve exuded confidence that he will defy the sweeping Wiper tide to defend his seat on Jubilee Party ticket.
“The reason I have called you here is to assure you that there will be no by-election in Mwingi North constituency”, said Munuve.

He went on, “I am not in any doubt that the (Wiper summons) are wild goose chase. Wiper cannot remove me from the seat I legitimately received in the ballot after being voted by 20,000 people of Mwingi North.” However, Munuve denied receiving the letter of summon but admitted that two of his colleagues were served with the summons.

“I cannot authoritatively respond to a letter that I have not received. If I receive it, I will act whether to reply in writing or get my lawyers to reply and appear on my behalf. That’s a decision I will make once I receive and see the contents of the letter,” said Mr Munuve hinting that he might file an injunction in court to bar the by election.
Other MPs targeted by Wiper for disciplinary action are MPs Mr Kisoi Munyao (Mbooni). Mr Richard Makenga (Kaiti), Ms Regina Ndambuki (Kilome), Mr Joe Mutambu (Mwingi Central), Bishop Robert Mutemi (Nominated).
Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua is the highest ranking rebel on the dreaded chopping board. It remains to be seen if the bunch will escape the Wiper wave or will defy the steep odds stacked against them.
On Mashujaa Day, Kalonzo “handed over” the rebels to President Uhuru Kenyatta and claimed that they would face the wrath of the people for ditching their sponsors.
