Residents
of Kamuwongo market in Mwingi North constituency were on Friday treated to a rare moment of shock
after a Form Two student in the nearby local secondary school gave birth and
dumped the baby into a pit latrine.
The
girl aged 18 years, was arrested by Kamuwongo Administration Police officers
with the help of some members of the public as she fled after committing the
heinous act, area assistant chief Mr. Patrick Maithya said.
A
nurse whom is said to have induced the student into labor pains was also
apprehended by the police and taken to Kyuso police station.
Mr
Maithya said the girl, a Kavonokya sect follower will be taken to the nearby
health centre for treatment before she is taken to court.
A
contingent of both police officers led by Kyuso police station OCS helped to
retrieve the body of the infant from the latrine pit. Curious onlookers
thronged the scene as the body was removed from the pit.
Kavonokya sect is an inside looking religious sect that discourages believers to seek medical attention preferring to pray for the sick and those who go against their strict interpretation of the Bible. The fate of the learner hangs on the tip of a needle as Kavonokya elders may excommunicate her or surprise her with a brethren hug of a prodigal daughter. Time will tell. Keep it here at Mwingi Times for the development of this story.
