A budding youth caucus paid a courtesy visit to Kitui County Assembly Speaker Kevin Kinengo at the Assembly precincts on Thursday afternoon.
Speaker Kinengo pledged to support the youth group identifying as one of them. "I am one of you and I am very positive about the youth leadership", he said.
Speaker Kinengo urged the youth to remain united and advised them to help in fighting the challenges affecting the youth such as mental health illnesses, depression, drug and substance abuse, among others.
As of the youth group leaders, they called upon the County Assembly to support them in addressing issues affecting the youth demographic such as unemployment, skewed access to government procurement opportunities and passage of youth friendly laws by the House.
The team sought Speaker Kevin Kinengo Katisya's intervention in establishing the Youth Bunge sessions in Kitui County. "Such forums which are already happening in other counties are important because they will enhance the involvement of youth in matters of legislative process", said Mr Derrick Ngenzi, the group's Chairperson.
The youth outfit also called on the Speaker to help the Kitui youth by ensuring the County Assembly of Kitui fast tracks the National Youth Policy, 2019 as well as pushing for its domestication to Kitui County for effective implementation.
