Tseikuru Technical Training Institute has been elevated to a National Polytechnic in a new move aimed at boosting access to higher education in Ukambani and beyond.

This comes after President Dr William Ruto held a meeting in Kakamega State Lodge recently.
"The action by Cabinet is pursuant to the principles set out in Sessional Paper No. 1 of 2005: A Framework for Education, Training and Research; which establishes a pathway for upward mobility of Technical and Vocational Education and Training [TVET] graduates" read a despatch released after the meeting by the Head of State and his cabinet. It was released on August 29, 2023.
A policy framework requires that at least one National Polytechnic in every county and at least one TVET institution in every constituency.
The 12 other technical training institutes upgraded to national polytechnic status are: Sang'alo Institute of Science and Technology, Maasai Technical Training Institute, Coast Institute of Technology, Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology, Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology, Mawego Technical Training Institute, Bureti Technical Vocational College, Jeremiah Nyagah Technical Training Institute and Baringo Technical Training Institute.
