The Senate Standing Committee on Agriculture and Livestock sat in Mwingi North, Kitui County to receive submissions on the Cotton Industry Development Bill. The Chairperson of the committee is Kirinyaga Senator James Murango.
The Senate Standing Committee on Agriculture and Livestock seeks to revamp the cotton industry with far-reaching measures aimed at benefitting farmers and traders/Parliament of Kenya
The meeting was attended by Embu Senator Alex Mundigi, Nominated Senator Beth Syengo and Bungoma Senator David Wafula.
The bill is sponsored by Senator Beth Syengo. It seems to promote a globally competitive cotton industry by facilitating the production, value addition as well as safe and healthy cotton and cotton products, said the Parliament of Kenya on its Facebook page.
Further, the Cotton Industry Development Bill seeks to promote the production of high income for cotton farmers and business people as well as sustained research and extension services for the development of the cotton industry.
Other plans in the pipeline are introduction of modern cotton farming techniques and provision of financial support for cotton industry players.
