The Weatherman has said that Kitui County has entered the month of cessation of long rains.

Kitui County Director of Meteorological Services Mr Daniel Mbithi said that a few wards will have rains for the week of May 2 to 8. "During the forecast period, Tharaka Ward is expected to get the highest rain totalling 34.3mm followed by Yatta/Kwa Vonza with 24.6 mm and Chuluni Ward which will receive 24.2mm", he said.
The March-April-May (MAM) has been ongoing since the onset of rains late March.
The news of rains cessation are a disappointment to many farmers who depend on rain-fed agriculture to provide food for their families. A sneak peek by MWINGI TIMES in Mwingi North Sub County showed that most crops are still maturing and rain failure will occasion heavy losses.
