Special Report: THE HIDDEN TREASURE IN FARMING

The farm is part of me. Farmers farm for the love of farming. There must be effort before there is excellence. The simple hearth of the small farm is the true centre of our universe.

A nation that can feed its people is a nation more secure. One of the key solutions to a secure food system is more and more local, small farms.

"Blessed are they who see beautiful things in humble places where other people see nothing"- Camille Pissarro. The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge but rather in a lack of will. If I could tell the world one thing about what being a farmer is like it would be how rewarding it feels to grow something from a seed. If we can recognize all that farmworkers have to offer, we’ll have a much richer food system. The city lights are cool. But farm light is way better. "People don't farm because they are too dumb to move to town and have a desk job. They are smart enough to keep the world alive!"-Lindy K.

Farming is a calling. A calling to risk everything, to provide everything, for everyone. The best way to fight poverty is through Agriculture. Growing your own food is like printing your own money. Harvest is the most wonderful time of year! I chose the agricultural life because it just feels right.

If you're going to complain about farmers, make sure you don't talk with your mouth full. Growing food or knowing a skill is empowering. You know that whatever may come your way, with your two hands you can survive or make a difference in this world. Farming is not just a job. It's a responsibility and a privilege.

Kelma Farm and Orchard strategically plans, plants and ploughs. We consider when to produce what farm produce based on food chain and supply and demand curve for all crops.

We have over four acres of maize or corn but spacing its planting time interval per acre. This enables us to have both green and dry maize at peak need.
