Ms Kalekye was elected on Friday during the MOA's Annual General Meeting. She replaces Stephen Gitagama , the Chief Executive Officer of Nation Media Group. Gitagama served under the same capacity for three consecutive terms.
He thanked Media Ownership Association members for their support during his tenure and wished the new team all the best.
Ms Kalekye's election comes against the backdrop of diminishing media revenues across the industry. This has seen many journalists lose jobs in retrenchments and other cost-cutting measures unleashed by the Fourth Estate.
Ms Kalekye promised to protect the member's interests as well as integrating new technologies especially in digital journalism sphere.
"As chair, my priority will be to protect the interest of members, promote excellence in journalism, to uphold the highest standard of ethics as well as embrace new technologies as we adapt to changing landscape in the industry to build a stronger resilient media industry in Kenya", said the new MOA Chairperson.
