MCAs file notice to impeach Kitui Speaker

A notice of impeachment motion has been filed against Kitui County Assembly Speaker Kevin Kinengo Katisya.

The Members of County Assembly said that they were not happy with Mr Katisya's leadership which is slightly over half a year into office.

The notice to oust the young first time Speaker was presented by Kivou MCA Sammy Munyithya to the Clerk's office.

Kitui County Assembly Clerk Mr Elijah Mutambuki confirmed that a notice of impeachment motion had reached his office. "Yes. I can confirm to you that we have received it and by law, I have five days to communicate to the Speaker", said the Clerk when reached by MWINGI TIMES.

When contacted for a comment over the notice of his ouster motion, the Speaker Katisya said that he is yet to receive a formal communication from Clerk Mutambuki. 

"Procedurally, once it is presented to the Clerk, I am supposed to get a formal communication. I am just seeing social media post but no official communication to me yet", he said.
 
Mutonguni MCA Benjamin Mulandi , in a press conference said that the Katisya ouster motion notice was backed by 45 MCAs. The Assembly has 60 MCAs. He said that the supporters of Speaker Kevin Kinengo Katisya's ouster had gone above the legal threshold.

The statement to impeach Kitui Speaker was signed by nine MCAs and read together by Kivou MCA Sammy Munyithya and his Mutonguni counterpart Benjamin Mulandi.
