Five Kyatune Boys' Secondary School students held over torching dorm

Kyatune Boys' Secondary School in Kitui South has reported that one of their dormitories was set on fire today in the morning. The dormitory which was assessed to be worth 5m which was accommodating more than 100 students burned to ashes.

However, during the incident no student got injured since all the students were in classes attending their morning preps when the dorm was allegedly set on fire.

According to Mutomo Sub County DCI officer Leonard Kurgat who was called by the school principal Mr. Mbaluka  to carry out the investigations, he confirmed that five students were suspected to have taken part in carrying out this act. The five were said to have opposed sitting for the  end term exam which was  set to start on Thursday April 6th.

The DCIO told MWINGI TIMES that when he was called after the fire had consumed the dormitory, he arrived at Kyatune Boys' Secondary School with his officers and began investigations.

"We noticed that on 2nd April these students had expressed their discontent that they were not ready for the Thursday exams because they haven't learnt enough to help them do the examination", said DCIO Leonard Kurgat.

Police arrested the five student suspects who are helping them with investigations. They will be taken to court at a later date.

The school has been closed until further notice.
