Kyome/Thaana MCA-elect swearing in slated for Monday

The newly elected MCA for Kyome/ Thaana Ward will be sworn in on Monday January 16, 2022.

In a gazette notice, in Kitui County Assembly Speaker Kevin Kinengo Katisya notified MCAs that the House will have a special sitting and the swearing in of the newly elected Wiper party MCA will be one of the businesses to transact.

Alphonse Mukwaiyu Musyimi emerged the winner in the by-election by garnering 2365 votes. His closest challenger was David Mwende who managed 1495 votes.

Mukwaiyu's win was declared by Mwingi West returning officer John Mwawasi. The by-election was held on December 8, 2022.

In his acceptance speech, Mukwaiyu said he will work with Governor Dr Julius Malombe administration to bring development closer to his constituents. He also pledged to hold public participation forums geared towards identifying development plans for the constituents.

The seat fell vacant following the demise of Tujibebe candidate Stanley Muthengi in the lead up to the August 9 general elections.

Kyome/Thaana MCA-elect Alphonse Mukwaiyu Musyimi will be the third MCA of the Mwingi West Ward.

The first MCA was Mwende David who served between 2013 to 2017. He was succeeded by Alex Wambua. Wambua did not take part in the by-election. He had vied for Mwingi West MP seat which he lost to Wiper's Charles Nguna Ngusya. Wambua ran on UDA party ticket.
