MUTETI to represent Kenya Kwanza in Eala

Kenya Mwanza MPs and Senators have voted for former secretary general of the defunct URP party Fred Muteti as East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP. Muteti's home county is Makueni.

Muteti is among five candidates voted for by the ruling coalition through a secret ballot during their PG meeting held at State House Nairobi. The exercise was presided over by President William Ruto.

During the State House meeting, President William Ruto urged Kenya Kwanza parliamentarians to give Raila Odinga an “enough rope” in the nominations. “For our brothers, lets give them enough rope to hang themselves”, an MP is said to have quoted President Ruto as having remarked by a local daily.

Azimio la Umoja -One Kenya Alliance nominations have been dominated by Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka who have fronted their relatives to be in the Arusha-based legislature.

Raila’s daughter Winnie Odinga, if successful, will be representing the Opposition coalition after her uncle Oburu Odinga did so in the last parliament.

Wiper party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka’s son Kennedy Musyoka is seeking a second term in the regional assembly.

Kenya will send nine representatives to EALA. Five of them will be from the ruling coalition while four will be from the opposition.

The legislators will be earning a total of KSh 1.5 million each month.
