High chance of light to moderate rains expected in Kitui County-Meteo

THE Ministry of Environment and Forestry expects the onset of October-November-December rains to help farmers get more pasture for their livestock when foliage shoots.

This will reduce losses occasioned by the ravaging weather conditions which have seen farmers lose livestock worth millions of shillings in the worst drought in 40 years.

A weekly weather forecast seen by MWINGI TIMES shows that the maximum rainfall this week expected in Kitui County will not exceed 30mm.

“The County is expected to experience generally wet and cloudy conditions breaking into sunny intervals with a high chance of light to moderate rains not exceeding 30mm over several areas in the beginning and towards the end of forecast period”, said Kitui County Director of Meteorology Mr Daniel Mbithi.

Temperature range in the county have dropped given that this week they will range from a maximum of 21 to 31 degrees Celsius. Two weeks ago, the temperatures would be as high as 35 degrees Celsius in most Sub Counties of Kitui county except the headquarters, Kitui Central.

The minimum temperature forecast by Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) is expected to range from 16 to 21 degrees Celsius.

During the first week of November, the weatherman said that Kitui County was likely to experience wet and cloudy condition. He said that the rains were likely to occur towards the start and end of the week of November 1 to 7.

However, the Kenya Meteorological Department warns that the expected total rainfall amounts are likely to be below the long-term average.
