No bribes in Kitui hiring, says CPSB chairperson

The Facebook account of the Kitui County Public Service Board was hacked by notorious persons, Board chairperson Dr Florence Makindi said. She revealed that the matter was reported to police for appropriate action to be taken.

“Kitui County Public Service Board does not charge for its services which are free neither does it condone bribery and acts of corruption in the process of discharging its duties including recruitment and promotion of staff”, said Makindi.

As she sent a stern warning to job seekers to refrain from giving bribes for recruitment as well as promotions once they join the public service, Dr Makindi said that such acts should be reported to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the EACC in order to be scrutinized.

The board chairperson observed that corruption was a serious impediment to the rule of law and sustainable development.

Her sentiments were echoed by Kitui County Governor Dr Julius Malombe. Without elaborating, Malombe said it was time to restore glory to Kitui County by doing the right thing.

The county chief noted that many parents in the county are poor and do not have money to bribe for their children to be hired in the county government. He said that during his first term as the pioneer county boss, many employees were hired “without knowing anybody”. He assured residents that his government will not be tolerant to corruption.

“We cannot tolerate the culture of asking people money when they are being employed or when they are being promoted”, he said.

The governor’s view about those who engage in bribery to get jobs was because they were not qualified to be employed hence the attempts to circumvent the legal channels of job seeking.
