Light to moderate rains expected this week-Weatherman

The Kitui County Director of Meteorology Daniel Mbithi has released another weekly weather forecast for the period from October 25 to the end of the month.

The Weatherman said that the county is expected to experience generally dry and partly cloudy conditions. This will break into sunny intervals with a chance of light to moderate rains which will not be more than 15mm over several areas towards the end of the forecast period.

Only Kitui Central Sub County, the county headquarters, was cited as likely to experience a lower temperature of about 28 degrees Celsius.

Mwingi North, Kitui East and Kitui South should brace for continued warm temperatures of up to 35 degrees Celsius, said the Weatherman.

The meteorology director has advised farmers to consult their local agricultural extension officers for guidelines on the best farming practices in the light of the weather forecast.

A Climate Outlook For October 2022 report prepared by the Kenya Meteorological Department earlier this month said that Kitui County and most of other Ukambani, Coastal and Northern regions will receive below average rainfall.

“Kitui County is likely to experience sunny and dry conditions during the month of October. Occasional rainfall is, however, likely to occur towards the end of the month; but the expected total rainfall amounts are likely to be below the long-term average amounts for October”, read the report in part.
