Weatherman forecasts below average Oct-Dec rainfall

The climate outlook for the "Short Rains" season between October and December 2022 indicates that most parts of the country are likely to experience depressed rainfall.

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) goes on to say that throughout the season, it forecasts that most parts of the country will have “a generally poor distribution of rainfall both in time and space".

South-eastern part of Kenya will receive below average (depressed) rainfall. This includes all Ukambani counties. KMD forecasts that this is likely to be experienced in the Lake Victoria Basin, Highlands West of the Rift Valley and Central and South Rift Valley, Counties in North Western Kenya and parts of Highlands East of Rift Valley.

This is according to a 22-page report by KMT titled: CLIMATE OUTLOOK FOR THE OCTOBER -DECEMBER 2022 "SHORT RAINS" SEASON AND REVIEW OF THE MARCH-MAY -JUNE-AUGUST SEASONS".

The report obtained by MWINGI TIMES was issued on August 31 this year. It was prepared by Dr David Gikungu, the Director of Kenya Meteorological Services.

The close the report comes to mention South Eastern Kenya is in its forecast of temperature where it says the Eastern part of Kenya will experience warmer -than-average temperatures.

Throughout the month of September, sunny and dry conditions are likely to prevail over South-eastern region. Similar weather conditions are likely to be experienced along the Coastal Strip, Northwestern and Northeastern Kenya.

The weatherman adds that a small section of western sector of Kenya are likely to receive near -average rains, tending towards below average.
