“I thank Wiper party leader for making history by nominating a journalist as MCA for the first time ever,”, she said.

Kalenga went on to note that the media plays an important role of highlighting issues affecting Kenyans in order for the government and other actors to remedy the problem in question.

The former Musyi FM radio queen was speaking on September 16 after attending an orientation session at the County Assembly of Kitui together with other MCAs. Both elected and nominated MCAs attended the orientation.

Kitui county has 40 wards. Each ward is represented by an MCA. It nominates 14 MCAs who work with the elected representatives.

Only one female MCA was elected in the just concluded general elections. Judith Wanza represents Nuu Ward. 38 out of 39 MCAs in Kitui County are male.

During the August general elections, one ward did not take part in the MCA elections due to a candidate passion on before the polls.

Kyome/Thaana ward elections were suspended after a candidate died in Thika road accident. Stanley Ngui Muthengi was vying on Tujibebe party ticket.

Priscilla Makumi shelved her Woman Representative ambitions. She was nominated by the Wiper party. She thanks Kalonzo for considering her in the nominations.

Ms Makumi says that she will use her nomination to champion women empowerment through legislations.

Kitui County Assembly Clerk Mr Elijah Mutambuki revealed that 99.9 per cent of MCAs attended the orientation session at the assembly precincts.

Only one MCA did not attend the orientation. The MCA sent an apology for missing the session.
