Kwanthanze volleyball team, Mbooni Boys rule in games

The National and East Africa volleyball defending champions Kwanthanze High school has proved their supreme for the game for the fifth time in the just concluded Eastern regional Kenya Secondary Schools Sports held in Kangaru School in Embu County.

The champions beat Kambi Mawe girls three sets with their opponents failing to answer in a match that attracted many spectators.

Kambi Mawe volleyball team was floored by Kwanthanze by 3-0 sets in the final [25-15,25-11,25-07].

Kwanthanze did not lose any set from Zonals.

The volleyball 'doctors' from Kwanthanze offered free lessons as they made light work for their opponents.

Many who watched the game said that the team from Kambi Mawe tried the match competing with East African Champions.

"I am impressed how the Kambi girls have played.  The game was tight. Kwanthanze is not champions of Kenya but also East Africa," said Jacinta Ndwiga, a spectator.

Kambi Mawe had on Friday bombarded Ilika from Kitui 3-0 to qualify for finals while Kwanthanze had thrashed Nkondi secondary 3-0 to qualify before Kambi Mawe learned from Kwanthanze.

Coach Justin Kigwari who has been training Kwanthanze team since he joined the school in 2013 expressed hope that his team will rule in national games slated in Nakuru next week.

''The levels of competition from look is intensifying even though we have not lost any set from Zonals. Since we met in 2019 things have changed in terms of competition. There are so many teams coming up strong and I even know nationally thing will not be as usual but we are very ready,'' he said.

Supremacy

Mbooni Boys of Makueni county have also reclaimed their supremacy in football, in Eastern Region after thrashing rival Machakos Boys 2-1 in final to win secondary school Ball games championship at Kangaru Embu.

It was a severe revenge to Machakos boys who had defeated Mbooni in group stages.

It was a double win for Mbooni as it also pocketed the handball after beating the same Machakos School 31-10 thus defending their regional championship for the match.  

In boys’ volleyball game the Region's defending champion Matiliku boys were awarded a 3-0 win by default.

Their opponents Kajunduthi were found to have committed an irregularity where the match played four sets with the defending champion Matiliku leading 2-1.

Kenya Volleyball Federation Referee Joseph Migua was asked to call off the match in favour of Matiliku the defending champion.

They have secured national ticket to kick the football game in Nakuru.

Lukenya School of Machakos squeezed Mbooni boys 62-36 to qualify for nationals  

In netball, Katwala of Kitui beat Kwanthanze of Machakos 42-32 to reclaim the title.

They defended their championship in a match that was highly contested in the first minutes.

In rugby All Saints High School of Embu County surprised their neighbour school Kangaru boys by 18-0 defeat.

In 2019 Kangaru won bronze medal in the East Africa Secondary School Games under their coach Benson Mwenda.

However, in what is seen to have injured the former rugby giants [Kangaru school] is after Mr Mwenda transferred his rugby tutorial to the new champions.

Kiteta girls of Makueni have been crowned as Champions Eastern region 3 by 3 Basketball in the Kenya Secondary School Sports held in Embu County after beating their Machakos neighbors Misyani girls 5:1 to qualify for Nationals.

The middle well composed girls from Makueni put the game tough for their competitors until the last minute.

They braved the coldness and change of weather in Embu to secure the trophy of the best in the game.
