Kalonzo’s kin among nominated MCAs in Kitui

Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper party has taken the lion’s share of nominated MCAs in Kitui County. This is consistent with its position as the dominant party in not only Kitui but the entire Ukambani region which stretches to Makueni and Machakos counties.

Mwalimu Mercy Muema is among the Wiper party nominated MCAs. She is a career teacher. Of note on the list is Mr Musyoka’s sister-in-law Mrs Mercy Muema. Muema, a career teacher, is among the eight Wiper nominated MCAs gazetted to shore up the glaring gender gap.

Kitui county has only one female elected MCA. Judith Kasyoka Wanza vied on an independent ticket to beat the incumbent Alex Musili. She is from Nuu Ward in Mwingi Central Sub County.

Kitui County comprises of 40 wards but elections took place in 39. Kyome/Thaana ward did not elect its ward representative. This was due to the passing on of Mr Stanley Muthengi having presented his nomination papers to the IEBC.

After Wiper taking half of the nominees, minority parties such as National Rainbow Coalition, United Democratic Alliance, Chama Cha Uzalendo and Jubilee party share 4, 2,1 and 1 posts each respectively.

Notably, the assembly has a number of journalists to represent the electorate in various capacities. Ex-Royal Media Services reporter Muthengi Ndangara was elected Tharaka MCA after trouncing Fredrick Nthuri.

Jacqueline Kalenga is another Wiper party nominee gazetted to bridge the gender gap. She recently resigned from Musyi FM.

Jacinta Mary Mwoni, who is a staffer at the County Assembly of Kitui is among the new faces in the assembly too.
