BREAKING: KEVIN KINENGO KATISYA ELECTED SPEAKER

Newly elected Speaker of the County Assembly of Kitui Kevin Kinengo Katisya with Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka during an earlier function. The 80-year-old two term Speaker of Kitui County Assembly George Mutua Ndotto has been ousted by 30-year-old lawyer Kevin Kinengo Katisya.

The elections took place at the Kitui Assembly Chamber where the clerk of the Assembly Elijah Mutambuki was the returning officer.  Ndotto got 6 votes. Katisya amassed 51 votes.

All the 57 MCAs present took part in voting. The duo had to go for the second round of voting as no clear winner had been determined in the first round of voting.

A winner of speaker’s seat is required to get two thirds of votes cast.

In the first round, Kinengo led by 25 votes while Ndotto came a distant second with 9 votes.

Other candidates who took part in the speaker elections got the following votes in round one of voting:

Andrew Ndisya Lisa-0,

Benjamin Mwikya Musyoki-8,

Augustus Kyalo Muli-7,

Boniface Kilaa Kasina-6,

Paul Ngula Kitungu-1,

Victor Kyalo Mutua-0, and

Samson Masila-1.
