On its part, the Azimio-One Kenya Alliance coalition has picked former National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende to square it out against Kenya Kwanza principal Moses Wetangula.

To be elected Speaker, a candidate must attain two thirds of the votes cast by 349 members of the National Assembly. That means s/he must get at least 233 votes cast.

As for the Senate, it is 45 of the 67 senators who will cast their vote for the next Speaker.

Failure to achieve above numbers in the first round, the candidates are subjected to a second round of voting and whoever gets simple majority of the votes cast is declared winner.
