Governor Malombe back with resounding victory

Kitui residents welcomed pioneer governor Dr Julius Malombe back to county’s top leadership with song and dance.

The governor-elect received his certificate from Kitui County Returning Officer Macharia Gichichi. The ceremony that stretched till 11pm was held at Kitui Multipurpose Development and Training Centre’s Hall.

Outgoing governor Charity Ngilu withdrew from the race and supported former Senator David Musila. Despite her last-minute withdrawal, Ngilu’s name was still on the ballot paper.  Only 2,026 people voted for her, according to the IEBC.

Dr Malombe garnered 198,004 votes to emerge the winner. This will be his second and final term in office. His closest rival was Senator David Musila who got 114,606 votes.

The other contestant in the race was Jonathan Mueke. He got 10,639 votes.
