The incident happened this morning at around 1am where Mr Mustaf Salat Muhumed and others were traveling from Garissa heading to Nairobi. Upon seeing a police roadblock, he made a U-turn and sped off towards Garissa.

The driver’s escape made police to give chase as the driver was endangering the lives of other motorists.

Police were able to arrest the suspects when they shot a rear right tyre of the fleeing vehicle, forcing it to stop.

AK47 Rifle

Upon inspection, the National Police Service officers recovered three rounds of live ammunition from the driver’s AK47 rifle and managed to disarm him.

According to Mwingi OCPD Mr Peter Mutuma, trafficker were misleading aliens by transporting them across the country without legal documents. “The National Police Service is steady protecting the country from bad elements”, he said.

The twelve were arrested without requisite travelling documents. The driver is expected to be charged for an offence of human trafficking once taken to court. All the aliens were placed under police custody.
