Soon after the Nairobi businessman Onesmus Mumo King received the clearance certificate, he took a swipe at rival politicians who he accused of spreading propaganda that he would not be cleared.

Mr King told his rivals to brace for a mother of all election battles witnessed in the area. He further called on the electorate not to elects leaders based on political party affliction but on the basis on the candidates manifesto and track record.

Kingi was cleared on Monday by the Kitui South Returning Officer Sylvia Maritim at the Ikutha Chief’s office in Kitui South Constituency. He was cleared ahead of Wiper Party’s Daniel Mutua, a retired former deputy commissioner of Kenya Prisons.

Buoyed by his clearance, King told rallies at Ikutha, Athi and Muangeni, Mutomo, Ikanga and Kyatune trading centres that the journey to install a God-fearing leadership that would ensure unmatched socio-economic development of Kitui South kicked off in earnest.

Exude confidence

Exuding confidence that he would easily dislodge the current MP, King said his leadership would be guided by fear of God and that public funds will be safeguarded and not diverted to line peoples’ pockets. “I want to tell you that time is nigh for a leadership that will see end of water problem, the building of good roads and the uplifting of the education standards in Kitui South which has remained under developed since independent,” said King.

He lamented that the people of Kitui South had not enjoyed the true fruits of independence since Kenya attained independence in 1963 as those elected to leadership had always neglected the area making it remain underdeveloped over the years.
