A Nairobi headquartered church has reached out to more than 400 families which have had to skip meals due to skyrocketing of maize prices. Maize is the staple food in the region.

The price of one kilogram of maize is currently retailing at KSh70 which is twice the cost before drought struck Kitui County.

Speaking to MWINGI TIMES, the Baptist Church of Nairobi said that it distributed the relief food to Mandongoi and Kasiluni villages of Ngomeni ward, Kitui County.

The relief maize was shared at Mandongoi Full Gospel Church compound as well as Kasiluni market.  The area pastor Jeremiah Mwanzia thanked the visitors for the donation saying that it could not have come at a better time.

Nairobi Baptist Chapel Church senior pastor Reverend Euticauls Wambua oversaw the relief food distribution.

Rev Wambua said his church received donations from his congregation and other stakeholders. He revealed that each household was given a 20kg maize bag that is barely enough. “In Mwingi north we hope to give food to between 2500 to 5000 people,”, he told our reporter.
