While appearing in a breakfast interview in Musyi FM, Mathuki said that he was appointed secretary general of EAC as an honour to the Akamba community. He thanked both Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and ODM leader Raila Odinga for their diplomatic roles in the region and the continent.

“Our country is big. Our tribe is big too. Let’s speak with one voice”, said Mathuki.

The EAC sec gen works with the Heads of States in the six East African countries who are set to admit the Democratic Republic of Congo as the newest member.

Jointly, the Arusha-headquartered body has more than 300Million people. Mathuki appealed to Africans to maintain unity reminding them that the boundaries set during colonization were imposed on us by the Whites who wanted to exploit the mineral wealth of the continent.

It takes 35 years for a country to resume a secretary general seat at the EAC once it goes, he said. He therefore urged the youth to work hard and aspire to occupy the coveted slot once another Kenya’s time comes up in future.

Former Head of Public Service Ambassador Francis Muthaura held the post before Mathuki. Mathuki said the role of boundaries was to tie Africans from reaching their full potential.
