The DP, via his
social media accounts announced on Monday evening that
he had appointed former Citizen TV news anchor Hussein Mohammed to
head  his Presidential
Campaign Communications team.
Hussein Mohammed, renowned TV journalist, has been appointed Head of
Communications in the William Ruto Presidential Campaign. Welcome to
the Hustler team,’’ Ruto said in a terse statement posted on Facebook
and Twitter without divulging more details on the roles Mr Mohammed
will be tasked to undertake. He was welcomed by the DP at his official
Karen residence.

A major change
This came hours after the DP’s campaign Digital Strategist Denis
Itumbi hinted of a major change in the campaign’s communications team.
A key addition to the campaign communications team to be
unveiled,’’ Itumbi posted Monday morning.
Mohammed’s pick comes barely a year after the UDA party picked former
Nation editor and veteran journalist Wanjohi Githae as the party’s
Communications Director in April 2021.
Mohammed, an award-winning journalist and a celebrated interviewer
left  plum job in October 2019. Since then
, he maintained a
low profile away from the media limelight. However, reports indicate
that he was working with NGOs as a communications consultant.
While at Citizen
TV Mohammed was admired by many for his eloquence and
hard
-hitting questions to politicians during interviews he hosted. The
broadcaster is an outlet of Royal Media Services owned by media mogul
S .K. Macharia. The businessman has openly supported Raila Odinga’s
2022 bid for presidency, a move that has put the station on the path
of ridicule by a section of Kenyans.
A section of leaders from UDA took to social media to welcome the
media guru whom they said was a major asset to the growth of the party
and a huge boost to their presidential candidate.
Your input as the head of communications in the William Ruto
Presidential Campaigns will be pivotal, ‘’ said Kiharu MP Ndindi
Nyoro.
