SACKED Ngilu’s Chief of Staff reinstated by Labour Court, to be paid huge arrears

The Labour Court has ordered the sacked Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu’s Chief of Staff, Crispus Ileli to be returned to the payroll and paid in full his salary arrears running into hundreds of thousands of shillings.

In a judgement issued on Friday on a petition case in which Ileli had challenged his dismissal from service, Lady Justice Monica Mbaru, declared the letter of August 6, 2021 terminating Ileli’s contract as null and void and of no legal consequence.

The Employment and Labour court judge directed Ileli to report back on duty for deployment unless he is removed from office for good reason.

It was further directed that Ileli be paid the salary arrears for the period more than a year he has been under suspension.

Ileli sued both the County Government of Kitui and the Kitui County Public Service Board on August 11, 2021 soon after his contract was terminated. He was serving a suspension for nearly a year since October 7, 2020.

The letter suspending Ileli from duty was authored by the then Kitui county secretary Joshua Chepchieng.

On August 6, 2021 the Secretary to the Kitui Public Service Board, Japeth Muthengi, terminated Ileli’s employment on charges of absconding duty.

Muthengi’s letter headed Termination of Contract said in part: “A committee constituted to investigate a case of absconding duty levelled against you found you guilty of the offence,”.
