A letter from the management placed at the entry informs the customers that the branch had been shut and the supermarket was undergoing restructuring.

“Greetings from the management of the Mulleys Supermarket. We wish to inform you that the Mulleys Supermarket is currently undergoing a necessary process of restructuring and reorganization of its business”, read the letter in part.

In the letter, Mulleys Management told the customers that the Machakos branch will remain closed and it will direct all its activities to Mulleys Embakasi, Mulleys Mtaani (Mlolongo), Mulleys Emali and Mulleys Jibambe (Tala) branches which will remain open during the restructuring.

Stock running out

In October, Mulleys customers noted that the supermarket was running out of stock in several of its outlets.

Following the outcry, the supermarket chain acknowledged the shortage and said it will be addressed.

According to Mulleys official website, the business started in 1969 as a wholesale business. The Peter Mulei & Sons Limited “was founded on strong core values and ethical practices based on the character and person of the founding patriarch, Peter Ngumbi Mulei”, reads the post in the About Us section of the Mulleys website.

The Mulleys grew within the region and into a supermarket business in 2010. It has 10 Mulleys Supermarket branches, 3 Mulleys wholesale outlets and a Mulleys distribution centre.

Mulleys spread across all the Ukambani counties (Machakos, Kitui and Makueni) and Nairobi serving over three million Kenyans.
