Key among those affected by the changes are Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa who is now the Defence minister while Mr Charles Keter will head the Devolution ministry. He previously served as the Minister of Energy.

The new Energy CS is Dr Ambassador Monica Juma. This has been confirmed by State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena. Juma was the Defence CS before the changes were made.

Surprise reshuffle

The Head of State has reassigned four principal secretaries to new roles in line with Article 155 (4) of the Constitution. Major General (Rtd) Gordon O. Kihalangwa has been reassigned to the State Department of Energy. Dr Eng Joseph Njoroge is the new PS for Transport department.

Kihalangwa is the former Principal Secretary of Public Works.

Other new changes are Mr Nelson Marwa to serve as Social Protection, Senior Citizens Affairs and Special Programmes PS. He will serve under CS Prof Margaret Kobia.

Mr Solomon Kitungu goes to State Department of Public Works as the new PS. These changes are expected to take effect immediately, says the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.

A number of Uhuru’s CSs have expressed interest in vying for gubernatorial seats next year. They have until February 2022 to resign or forgo their political ambitions.

In February this year, Uhuru reshuffled his Cabinet where some of senior members of the Executive branch of government were appointed Chief Administrative Secretaries.

Jackson Musyoka Kalla was appointed CAS for Labour and Social Protection while David Osiany as CAS for Industrialization, Trade and Enterprise Development, among others.
