EACC summons Chuka University VC over academic certificates

Tharaka Nithi senator Prof Kithure Kindiki has vehemently opposed Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission’s (EACC) investigation into Chuka University Vice Chancellor Prof Erastus Njoka calling the move a juvenile political case aimed at injuring his reputation.

The distinguished law professor took to Facebook to pen a scathing attack to EACC urging restraint in what he termed as humiliating the Chuka University CEO.

“Prof Njoka is an accomplished scholar and a successful university administrator who has done a great job in making Chuka University the premier institution in our county and region”, wrote the senator.

Despite the Commission for University Education (CUE) approving Chuka University Vice Chancellor Prof Erastus Njoka’s academic papers that he obtained from Patrice Lumumba People’s Friendship University in Russia, EACC is probing the papers he earned while studying in Russia.

Teaching Russia

The Chuka University VC studied Russian language and was given the right to lecture the foreign language in Russia.

The EACC regional office in Isiolo town will today interrogate Prof Njoka to shed light on how he earned the academic papers in Russia.

He graduated with a PhD in Agriculture (Zootechny, animal products and production technology) in 1993. He also has a Masters of Science degree in Animal Husbandry and a postgraduate diploma from the same university.

CUE CEO Mwenda Ntarangwi wrote to EACC on August 20 saying that the said Russian institution of higher learning was recognized in Kenya and is duly qualified to teach Kenyan students and other internationals.

The anti-graft agency also wrote a letter to Egerton University VC on March 2, 2021 asking for documents confirming Prof Njoka’s qualifications.
