President Uhuru Kenyatta has begun his one-day visit in Ukambani. The first stop was Thwake dam. He was accompanied by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and all Ukambani governors among other leaders.

Thwake Dam in Makueni County is expected to provide clean water to over 1.3 Million residents of Makuei and Machakos counties.
The double cancellation of president's trip was attributed to simmering disagreements between the three governors and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
However, while touring Makueni and Machakos region on Wednesday, Kalonzo denied that there was bad blood between him and the gubernatorial trio.
It has cost the government Sh43Billion to invest in Thwake Dam. When complete, it will be expected to produce 20MW hydroelectricity and contain flooding in Athi River.
A 40,000 hectare irrigation scheme will be set up by the government to fight food scarcity in the drought-prone region.
Earlier this week, Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana dismissed Kalonzo's visit as a ploy. " For the first time, Kalonzo has visited Thwake Dam ahead of president's Ukambani tour. Today he said he is John the Baptist", said the governor.
