The tour will be marked by a scale down of activities in order to adhere to Covid-19 protocols.

An official communication on the Ukambani tour by President Uhuru Kenyatta was announced by State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena today.

"It is notified that whereas His Excellency the President remains keen to assess the impact of his Administration’s transformative projects and programmes across the Country, in this instance he will make a scaled down inspection of identified projects in the Lower Eastern Region," Kanze said.

The statement was released moments after the president met a leaders form Ukambani who included former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, Machakos governor Alfred Mutua and his Kitui counterpart Charity Ngilu. All senators of Ukambani were also present as well as other elected leaders from the Lower Eastern Region.

Public rallies are termed by the moniker ‘super-spreaders’ given the surge in Covid-19 numbers after they are held as happened in Kisumu.

Observers say the political bickering between Wiper party boss Mr Musyoka on the one side and the regional governors on the other led to the stalemate with the former keen on getting Uhuru’s endorsement and the later showing the president their projects and their development wish lists.
