At last, the Kitui County government has broken its silence on the health condition of governor Charity Ngilu who is admitted at Nairobi Hospital with Covid-19.

A terse dispatch from the governor’s communication desk this morning indicates that she was responding well to treatment and was “not in any foreseeable danger.”

The update on the condition of the Governor however called of Kenyans to continue praying for the governor.

“H.E. Governor Charity Ngilu is responding well to medication. Doctors say she is not in any foreseeable danger. Let’s continue praying for our Governor,” said a terse release to the media on Wednesday morning.

The update further pointed out that Ngilu was able to make phone calls on her own and speak freely with visitors. “Thanks to everyone who sent in their messages of quick recovery and good will,” added the update.

Ngilu who was taken ill with a strong fever on late last week, was initially being attended by medics at her Ithookwe home in the outskirts of Kitui town. She was however airlifted for specialized attention in Nairobi after her oxygen levels dipped to worrying levels.

However, her sickness remained a highly guarded secret until on Tuesday, her Machakos counterpart Alfred Mutua disclosed during a Music festival ceremony in Ndakaini in Gatanga in Mt. Kenya region that she was indisposed.

“We want to remember our sister Charity Ngilu. She has contracted Covid-19. She is admitted at Nairobi Hospital but she had initially planned to be with us here,” Mutua told those in attendance.

Sources who requested anonymity told Mwingi Times that the governor fell sick after she arrived from a Mombasa meeting, she had with Kitui MCAs.  “Some of the MCAs are not feeling well too”, said the source.

Kitui Governor Ngilu updated Kenyans that she was leaving Nairobi Hospital after being discharged. "Thanks to God for restoring my health", she said. She thanked her friends for messages of quick recovery during her hospitalization.
