I believe in bottom-up economic model Mueke tells Ruto

Former Nairobi Deputy Governor Jonathan Mwangangi Mueke who is an aspirant for Kitui gubernatorial seat has joined Deputy President William Ruto’s Hustler Movement.

Mueke confirmed this himself on his Facebook page where he said he believes in Ruto’s bottom-up economic model that he thinks will uplift the majority of Kenyans from poverty. “I am excited to be part of this journey”, he says.

Mueke took three photos with the deputy president and uploaded them on Facebook. Strikingly similar were their shoes.  They both wore cream colour. For Mueke, it was trouser and for Ruto it was coat.

After four hours, the post attracted over 1400 likes.

Other candidates who have declared interest in Kitui gubernatorial race are Charity Ngilu who is the governor and running on Narc ticket. Wiper party ticket is being fought for by former senator David Musila and former governor Julius Malombe. Kenyan Ambassador to Uganda Kiema Kilonzo will vie using Jubilee party ticket. And now Jonathan Mueke with UDA (United Democratic Alliance).

According to his LinkedIn account, Jonathan Mueke is the Executive Director of TSG Reality. He served as deputy governor of Nairobi under Dr Evans Kidero from 2013 to 2017.

He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Global IT and Entrepreneurship from Oakland University. He also has a BSc degree in Computer Science from Wayne State University. Both are from the US.

He is a family man; married with two children 11 years old and a year old respectively. He is in his second marriage.

Last year, he told Business Daily newspaper that communication is the most important thing in marriage. “The biggest lesson I learnt from my first marriage— which failed after a year and a half — was that if you don’t listen to the whispers, you’re gonna have to hear the screams. You have to know each other. You also have to take your significant other the way they are. You can’t change people. And that’s why it’s important to date and get to know somebody before you marry them, so that you can know your irreducible minimum”, he said.

Resignation letter

In September last year, Mueke ditched Wiper party by handing in his resignation letter to its leader and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and the party’s National Executive Council.

The reason he gave for leaving Wiper is that the political landscape was changing and he believed it required “a better future for the young population in the country”

With Kenya’s evolving political landscape, coupled with the kind of change required to bring the promise of a better tomorrow for our youthful population, I find myself at the point where I must pursue a different political path than Wiper currently represents.

It is for this reason that I hereby tender my resignation, with immediate effect, from the Wiper Democratic Movement’s National Executive Council as well as relinquish my Platinum membership in the party, said Mueke.

Jonathan Mueke was a member of Wiper party for 14 years. During that time, he unsuccessfully contested for Westlands parliamentary seat in 2007. In 2013, he was Kidero’s deputy until they lost the reigns of power to Mike Mbuki aka Sonko in 2017.

He is aged 44 years.

UDA party has become increasingly popular party in Kenya with many incumbent and upcoming politicians preferring it. The biggest loser in this onslaught has been the ruling party Jubilee.

Some of recent wins in by-elections by UDA are: Rurii by-election in Nyandarua County and Kiambaa parliamentary (Kiambu County) seat win. Both felled Jubilee party candidates.
