The eastern ribbon snake is locally known as Muuchwi or Inyuuki.

It is not a surprising incident to spot a snake slithering along the road when driving or walking in Tseikuru ward.

Usually, snakes are attracted by water and they feed on preys including chicken eggs and young chicks, birds, insects and lizards. When it is very hot, they enter homes of residents for shelter.

Due to high belief in superstitions in Mwingi, snakes are sometimes associated with witchcraft and bad omen. But this has no scientific prove.
