Muturi declares Kibra constituency seat declared vacant

The National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has officially declared Kibra  Constitueny vacant following the death of MP Ken Okoth last month.

Through a Kenya Gazette on Wednesday Muturi paved way for a by-election in the city constituency.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has to conduct the mini-elections within  three months.

"In pursuance of  the provisions of section 16 (3) of the Elections Act, 2011, I command you that, due notice being given, you do cause election to be held according to law of a member  to serve in the National Assembly  for the said constituency, "  the notice stated.

Okoth who was the area MP since 2013 succumbed to colorectal cancer on July 26.
