NACADA
warn youths against being used to cause violence in campaigns
BY BONIFACE MWANIKI
National Chairman of NACADA Julius
Githiri has called upon Kenyan youths against being misused by politicians as a
means to an end and to cause mayhem during electoral campaigns especially
during this year’s general elections.
Speaking at Mwingi where NACADA
officials organized an interactive meeting with about 500 youths from the
region, Githiri warned that during elections the youths might be intoxicated
with drugs by politicians so as engage into violence.
He called upon Kenyan youths to
avoid drug and substance abuse especially during this election period so as to
be able to make sober decisions, as Kenya will still remain even after the 8th
of August.
C.E.O of NACADA Victor Okioma
indicated that drug abuse was the one of the factors which sparked the 2007/2008
post-election violence, warning the youth improper use of drugs might turn them
into beastlike human beings who are ready to kill for no reason.
Okioma encouraged youths who are the
majority in the society to take advantage of their numbers and stand out to be
counted as peace ambassadors during the campaigns and not to allow politicians
to misuse them.
