I
am the best bet for Kitui’s water scarcity- Ngilu

Former Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu
has assured voters that she will put an end to the perennial water shortage in
Kitui County if she will be elected governor next year.
Mama Rainbow, as she is called by her NARC
supporters, hopes to deploy her checkered experience in government to reign in
on water and food crises in her county which is classified as an Arid and Semi-Arid
Land (ASAL) and thus prone to frequent drought.
The one time Water Minister also wants to
empower women and youth whom she argues have been ignored by Governor Julius
Malombe administration.
HISTORY TO REPEAT ITSELF
Ms. Ngilu’s remarks come hot on the heels of
calls for her to abandon the gubernatorial race by a section of leaders from
her political bedrock. Two MPs Francis Nyenze (Kitui West) and Charles Nyamai
(Kitui Rural) urged Ngilu to instead consider the senatorial race which she
lost to David Musila in 2013. They also want her to back Senator Musila for the governor's seat. The two MPs promised to campaign for Ms. Ngilu to
clinch the senator seat.
But for the avoidance of doubt, Ms. Ngilu
steered clear of the “advice” to abandon her gubernatorial dreams and assured
her supporters she will go all the way to the tape.
“I am the best candidate for this job. I
pray for your support so that we can secure this seat to liberate our people
especially the women from problems, “said the former Kitui Central MP.
She was
speaking at Kimangao Parish in Mwingi North Constituency during a fund drive
for the Catholic Women Association. The area MP John Munuve and his rival John
Makau sharply differed in the church. Ms. Ngilu, on her part, advised two to avoid squabbles and instead embrace peaceful
vote hunt: “As a seasoned
politician I want to advise you to be humble because this seat belongs to the
people. Embrace peace and do campaigns based on issues of service delivery.”
